Music Monday on a Thursday (so sue me)

If anybody out there is thinking of marrying me, and who knows what the future might hold, you'd better be rich and like the Baseballs.

As I have never met anyone else who had heard of the Baseballs*, I will have to assume that opinion is divided. On the one hand, they are a German rockabilly band who do cover versions of chart hits. On the other hand, they are a German rockabilly band who do cover versions of chart hits. I saw them live last night at the Islington Academy which was packed to the rafters with shrieking girls in 1950s dresses, bright red lippy and high ponytails. Up on stage there were a lot of leather jackets and quiffs, curling lips and swinging hips, and lame German humour about trying to order a Big Mac when you have a funny accent. The whole thing could have been a cringe-inducing disaster IF the boys weren't charmingly modest (genuine delight that the crowd did scream when requested to do so), IF the band weren't white hot (some of the best drumming and double bass playing I've seen in years) and IF the orchestrations weren't so utterly convincing. Basically, the Baseballs are the best wedding band that you can't afford to book for your wedding, hence my future fiance now needing to be a little more full of pocket than before.
