Having, while by no means a strange name, nevertheless a relatively uncommon one, I am always struck when it turns up in a book I am reading. And I think I have just found my all-time favourite use of my name in a novel, or at least one that is going to prove very hard to beat in the 50ish years of reading that I hope are yet to come. From Meg Wolitzer's 'The Position':
"Marie, yes, Marie..." Long once said thoughtfully, stroking the edges of his moustache, after Paul had mentioned a former girlfriend. "Forgive me, Paul. Was she the one who gagged uncontrollably when she attempted to orally gratify you, or the one whose mother had Lupus?"

oh - another meg. how unsettling. i was just going to comment that most megs i encounter have four legs and a cold, wet nose. (mind you, i used to know identical twins called ben and rex - that's even worse, surely?)
