Strictlywatch 2009: week 10

Is it midseason fatigue or has Strictly got suddenly, fatally dull?

This is my third attempt at a Strictlywatch for this week. But what is there to say? Bruce was back to his smug, homophobic ways (telling Craig not to call men "darling") - GET RID GET RID GET RID - Tess was back in the backroom being boring (bring back Claudia), Ali and Brian's foxtrot was nice, so was Laila and Anton's waltz. Then again, I had to sit at my keyboard for several seconds before I remembered Laila's NAME. That can't be good. Ricky and Natalie's American Smooth was slow and sweet and then had an incredibly stupid, attention-seeking lift (oh it's so romantic, oh it's so romantic, oh I can LIFT YOU ABOVE MY HEAD - doesn't resonate with any dates I've ever been on, but I am quite sheltered). Alesha - cabin fever setting in? - gave it a ten. My theory? Alesha madly fancies Ricky, and he has rejected her, probably the week of the notorious backflip, so she has to cover it up by constantly banging on about how amazing the chemistry between him and Natalie is, and insanely over-marking them, to show she HAS NO BITTERNESS. Chris and Ola's Viennese Waltz was fine. They went to a ballet school in the VT just to emphasise how Sylvanian Family they really are. Natalie and Vincent's samba was pretty grim, but then sambas are, and I have a desperate need for Natalie to stay in the competition, now that the personality has left with Phil and the only potential challenge to Ali / Ricky has been popped out with Jade's knee. And Ricky and Erin went out on a tango that was dreadful on the first attempt, when Ricky just sort of walked around a bit, and merely not very good on the dance-off attempt, when Ricky apparently danced it. All I can say is thank the lord they are doing two new dances next week (rock-n-roll / charleston) or I might just drift off completely.

I mean, I know I should have more to say about this but really. Yawns a-go-go.

For our special guest age watchers, I can report that this week we had Dame Shirley Bassey, a wee slip of a lass at 71.

Sorry. I know this is lacklustre. Did I miss something? Was it any good?

Come on it's rubbish and has been from the beginning. Actually from before the beginning, when we were inundated with all the Aleysha replaces Arlene crass publicity from a very misguided BBC PR machine. Now believe it was to disguise the fact of the new competitive dance team of nobodies. I couldn't care less who wins. Load of losers/nonentities in the first place. And someone put the useless Tess thingy out of her misery pleeeeese. For those who don't know - the BBC licence fee is a tax under the law. We need a revolution and heads to roll for this sort of crap. Changing channels regularly these days.

Unfortunately, with the excpection of Natalie, there is no one left who has any personality at all. There's nothing about them. Ali and Brian are so dull. Ricky is nice to look at if you fancy him I guess, but otherwise, also dull. Laila and Anton are okay, I suppose. Natalie will just have to win.

On a side note, what was Erin wearing?! I barely watched their dance I was so outraged. I know Erin has nice tango dresses, I've seen her wear them. Fringe! On her arms! WHAT.

I am just too dismayed about Jade & Ian to enjoy it anymore. They were the only couple with any personality that could have posed a genuine threat to the boring Hollyoaks twins. Between them and Tess (yes, bring back Claude!) I can't even summon the energy to be bothered to turn the thing off. I am trapped in a hell of my own making.

Oh yes, 'lacklustre' is exactly what it was. The other word that springs to mind is 'safe'. Well, who could blame them after last week, when Strictly morphed into Holby City? Which is why I loved 'Liftgate' (yes, Claudia called it Liftgate yesterday) because, whether it fitted or not (appropriate for 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', no?) it was at least the antithesis of 'safe'.

Alice, I couldn't agree with you more about Erin's ghastly purple vulture dress. This is the year of the feathery fringe and I'm still trying to work out why it is being used as a homage to 1970s Hollywood musicals. Funny Lady (1975)? The Blue Bird (1976)?

Natalie to win!

It's all v boring at the moment. I think they should do a 'Big-Brother' style introduce-a-new-person-to-mix-it-up stunt. Katie Price is free now, isn't she? *gasps* maybe that's why she left the jungle!!

It really wasn't much good. I actually voted for Chris and Ola. Chris and Ola! I don't know what's happened to me. I sit there and get sad and nostalgic for 2007. Alesha! Matt di Angelo! Gethin! Kelly Brook!

Very sad that all sambas are basically terrible. Ramps did a good one that's worth another look, but for a proper one, take a look at Gilles Marini on Dancing with the Stars. Astonishing. Why can't we have one of him?

I am so sad about Jade and Ian (didn't she look upset sat in the audience - I would refuse to do that if I was a celebrity). However very important that she get better for her real job (being an awesome athlete). Oh and yes Salsas are generally horrific, why do they even include them?

I LOVED that Jade and Ian wore black for their departure announcement. I expected her to cry glittery tears but was disappointed.
