Firestation Bookswap: November Preview

Over on his brilliant blog, Robert Hudson does a lovely job of publicising next month's Firestation Bookswap, in which he is appearing with Richard Asplin. I think it's going to be a particularly good one this month, if you can make it, which is not to diss the particularly good ones we've had so far, but it's too late for you to make those. Also, audience members have started baking and bringing cakes. Rumour has it there is going to be parkin, there will almost certainly be cupcakes and I am hoping for a repeat of last month's flapjacks. (Those links all take you to the bakers thereof.) That's in addition to cakes from varied family members of Scott's, and I might even get some brownies made myself this time. I aint promising anything. But you never know.

Oh yeah, and books. Bring one, swap one, talk about lots. You know the drill.

Tickets here.

I might actually be able to come to this one! And I could bring some cake...

1. If you make cakes in my presence and near a camera, I will make you a star. I mean, I will make you the heroine of a cookery-based Inspiring Photo Essay teaching people how to make whatever cakes you are making.

2. Word verificiation - 'exhip'. Computers know nothing.

Oh, of course there will be parkin. I'm a parkin making machine!

Bloody hell. I'll just miss it. I'd really hoped to attend the November bookswap, but I'm flying back to Bangkok on the 23rd. Missing out on all those baked goods, too. Wah. I hope the evening proves as much a success as previous ones and that there is enough parkin to go round.

What the park is parkin?

Thanks for the link too – the world famous* recipe for said flapjacks is going up on my website when the grand redesign is complete, which I’m hoping will be next week. But I said that 3 weeks ago. Then – THEN! – flapjack heaven will be yours forever.

And I might bring some to the next bookswap, but last time I ended up eating 2 on the way there, and 4 on the way home, and that’s not good for my emerging “swimmer’s build”.

Parkin's a northern ginger / treacle cake, traditionally eaten on Bonfire night and it's impossible to get in London, probably for the very reason that barely anyone outside of Yorkshire and Lancashire have heard of the bloody stuff... I'm sort of evangelical about it this year. (Read: batshit mental.)

Parkin sounds like the stuff of heaven, Bagelmouse please share your recipe with us poor unenlightened souls! Sis, don't forget the brownie recipe on greedyphillips, it's a good easy one. Hope it goes brilliantly! (Bookswap, but also brownie-baking!)

More than happy to! It's good old Delia Smith, and so easy even I can make it...
