Chances are you've already seen this, but loving this video for International Women's Day:

4. You get to hear why, alas, we still need an International Women's Day, and you don't crawl out the other end feeling patronised or bored.
I've heard a few people asking why there isn't an International Men's Day. There is, it's on November 19th. Perhaps you can get a video of Angelina Jolie in a really nice trouser suit talking about teenage suicide statistics. Or indeed a rerun of this excellent Rachel Stevens public service announcement:

I love that Daniel Craig vid. It has made me think there is a point to IWD (which up until then I thought was fairly stupid). I've just blogged my five literary role models to celebrate.
I didn't know there was an IMD. Good. I believe in equality, me.
Did you know International Women's Day is 100 years old? That it's a national holiday in South Africa? Neither did I until I read this article which appeared in today's Globe and Mail, which looks outside the western world.
I thought every day was International Men's Day....
Someone at work today said OH WOE OH HORROR WHY IS THERE NO MEN'S DAY (I paraphrase slightly). I said, We get the other 364, stop moaning!
I think there isn't a well-known IMD because that would mean they'd have to face up to some rather uncomfortable truths and responsibilities, judging by the hostility that women get when we point them out.
