Jewish Book Week

The following just plopped into my inbox:

Would you like the opportunity to work with literary luminaries from around the world?

Jewish Book Week 2008 is looming on the horizon and we’re looking for volunteers to join our team and help make this year another stellar week. You’ll have the chance to meet dazzling literary personalities and get free access to events.

I'm reading at Jewish Book Week. Cripes. I suppose that makes me a dazzling literary luminary personality from around the world. Better invest in some lipstick.

You should consider a a new pair of nifty shoes as well. Nothing shows your are a luminary better than a sexy heel.

In what way are either you or your book Jewish, or does Jewish Book Week just mean a book week for jewish people, and if so, why do they need a book week to themselves if the books/authors are not in any particular way realted to Judaism? I'm confused. And also, how classy an event can it be when they write something like "help make this year another stellar week"? You know me, pedantic as ever. Anyway, good luck with the reading, you luminary international not very Jewish whatever.

That one Jewish grandparent gives us right to return, and right to read at Jewish Book Week I suppose. Or maybe it's just because the book is about religion.

It's about pagan religion! Haven't they noticed?

It's only sort of approximately for Jews. Hence Jew-ish.

It's a terrific event because there's a real buzz about the books and the authors. If it was allowed, every sentence would be applauded.

So nu: who could ask for more?

I just found your blog on Fidra's blog, and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed Gods Behaving Badly. You won't need the lipstick to keep their attention: Gods Behaving Badly will do it all for you.

Angela - thank you!

JS - sounds like my kind of crowd. I have been before as a punter and always enjoyed it so I'm really looking forward to my appearance (Thursday 28th 5pm!)

I just finished Gods Behaving Badly and simply CANNOT wait for another book by Ms Phillips. I rather hope she continues the story on. I laughed so hard, and the end I was in a frenzy trying to read it, only to know it would soon be over...Thanks for a great book!!!
