Do you miss me? I miss you. But my gorgeous, demanding little nephews and their equally gorgeous, slightly less demanding and far less little parents are visiting me from Mozambique so I am ignoring my responsibilities.
Fortunately, here's an interview I did earlier. Just to keep the wolf from the door.
And you're coming to the Firestation Bookswap on Thursday of course, so I'll see you there. Remember, if you can't come because you live in Canada or something, you can post questions for Jessica Ruston or Robert McCrum here and I'll ask any that aren't actually obscene.
Come on down!

There seems to be quite a few books about readers jumping into books or characters jumping into real life, do you think that words fuel more than just the imagination, but might even take on a physical form? For example, I have a group of books I read whenever I get sick because I have this sense they help me get better.
(I know this is not obscene, but perhaps too bizarre. If so, please ignore.)
This one is for Robert McCrum regarding My Year Off: The trouble with writing anything autobiographical (actually, this is probably true of writing, period) is that there it stands, a record of your opinions and feelings, long after those may have changed. Is there an opinion or feeling recorded in My Year Off that you'd like to go back and footnote? ("Look, that's what I thought at the time, I don't feel that way anymore...")
I just noticed at Scott Pack's blog that he's saying "no questions about writing". Should I withdraw my question?
Loved the Bookswap, Marie. Thanks to you and Scott for putting in such an effort and organising this. Hope it goes on and on and is a great success for you.

The bookswap was really fun, and you were v v glamorous with your big long legs and high heels. When I got up this morning, i was like "I must order Marie's very interesting sounding book" and then my mail arrived and your book was in it! ~Book ordering amnesia, I'd obviously ordered it knowing I was coming to the thing, sometime last week. Anyway that was like wishing for something and it coming true straight away! So thank you for last night and see you again, Emma
