I agree with you on everything but the aliens, which I just thought were silly. But otoh, I quite like silliness in Dr Who, and the rest of it was so much fun I can forgive them for that. (But really all that CGI, and that was the best they could come up with?)

I loved it. I want one of those little Adipose things aswell, so adorable! Im with you all the way on the DT licking front! Donna has surprised me i wasnt so sure about her but now i think shes great, with her classic line "You're not mating with me sunshine!"

I wasn't overly impressed I have to say (and ever so slightly disappointed).

It wasn't scary in the slightest for a start and (as Scott said) there was no sense of peril. But, as I said to my fellow viewer, that's just about allowable because it's an 'easing you in gently' first episode where they set the scene and the dynamics for the Doctor/Donna relationship.

I should also mention that I find Donna ever so slightly annoying (less so in this episode than the last one she was in) and hope I stop feeling like I'm watching a Catherine Tate character.

I thought the Rose appearance was a surprising twist (fellow viewer called it 'stupid') and that's enough to keep me hooked (not that I needed Rose to appear to keep me hooked to Doctor Who but it's still a good one).

I look forward to episode 2.

I was wondering what you thought... when I heard Rose was coming back and seeing the previews of her looking all appalled, I was hoping for a big swooping-in to help save the day around ep 11, but now I'm just afraid that her return is going to be all about her trying to find her way back across the void, following trouble just like Donna did, so she can be reunited with the Doctor and cry some more. I do not want to be right. I want Rose to have moved on and be kick-ass.

The Pack family verdict was that it was a bit silly with no real sense of danger, not even 'mild peril'. Fun though.

We all liked the Rose ending and Ethan and Martha already have theories as to what is going on there.

I am not a fan of Catherine Tate's comedy series. Like Ab Fab, it has never made me so much as titter - ever. But I thought she was hilarious on Jonathan Ross.

An interesting piece in yesterday's Times about how Battlestar Gallactica is miles better. Worth a read if you can find it.

The "Bobby Ewing / Rose" fear is one which I shared but I was so blown away by seeing her here that all my concerns have gone.

I think I agree with just about every sentence of that bar the villain not being too villainous, which I thought was a nice touch and the real villains were the guys in the upside down rouletter wheel; and I'm not sure about DT being asked to lick all sorts of things - I'm neutral on that. Other than that, total agreement with you.
