I'd be surprised if you find the Sony 'phones a match for the Sennheisers, which are generally recognised as the benchmark when it comes to sound quality.

Sennheiser UK offer a 2 year guarantee on the PX200s; even if you like the Sonys you could get them to send you a replacement to keep as a spare.

Most headphones regardless of make are prone to cable problems because the cables tend to get involuntarily tugged from time to time. When it is the solder joint with an earcup that fails, it is rarely difficult to gently prise the cup open and resolder the connection, which will often be considerably stronger than the original. The last phones I repaired for a friend pulled the cone loose inside the cup the next time he ran for the phone with them on, the joint was so strong! So how handy are you with a soldering iron?

More expensive Sennheiser phones have replaceable cables which saves a lot of hassle when they start playing up.

My devotion to the HD-25s as the studio and DJ monitoring standard is well documented, but they are not light, foldable, small and certainly aren't cheap!

I would say that I was listening to Fake Plastic Trees on them over the weekend, and heard a really clear guitar part in the song that I had never heard previously. After 13 years of listening to it!

I use these ones, and have done for years, as has Dan. The sound quality is excellent, no noise leakage, not too pricy, and they come with 3 sizes of soft bud (a bit like earplugs) so you can use the one that fits, and they are super-comfortable (I can't use the hard in-ear ones, they hurt after about 10mns).
